  • What is Rareware Archives?

    Rareware Archives is your one-stop shop for all things
    Rare. Whether it is the latest news stories and features, interviews with Rare staff or a full-to-bursting section covering all of their games that includes reviews, walkthroughs and guides, as well as screenshots and videos ... we’ve got you covered! We also have our very own hand-built forums where you can chat to other Rare fans about anything and everything that takes your fancy, and every now and then we run competitions where some cool Rare swag is often up for grabs, so we think it’s fair to say we’ve got something for everyone. Urgh, how clichéd is that?

    A bit of history for you; way back in 2004 we created a website called Spiral Mountain, a virtual museum for all things Banjo-Kazooie, and an active community for B-K fans around the globe. One day we sat down and decided that things had reached a crossroads; we could either continue as we were and slowly see the site die as no new Banjo news was coming any time soon, or we could evolve and reinvigorate the site and its content! So, we expanded the site’s remit to cover all of Rare's games and a name change to Rareware Archives came in May 2010.

    We've worked very hard to make a site where you can talk about Rare's games and to ask questions without fear of being flamed or being labelled a 'noob'. Some people will only be discovering Rare's great games for the first time and will naturally have questions to ask. This site will allow you to find the answer in a fun and safe environment.

    Specific game content such as reviews, features and walkthroughs are being added all the time by our staff members. You can also submit your own to us if you like and we'll host it here for all to see. Just e-mail us or send a PM telling us what game you'd like to write about and we'll go from there.

    Is site membership free?

    Yup, it always has and always will be 100% free!

    How do I become a member?

    Rareware Archives is chock-full of content for those who just want to pop their head through the door but in order to post messages in our forums you will need to sign up. To do this just click on this
    link and fill out the registration page with your details. Providing someone hasn't already taken your desired username you will then be a member of Rareware Archives! Please bear in mind that there are rules associated with joining up which you need to be aware of so please take the time to read them.

    What's all this about secret trophies I keep hearing about?

    Anyone who's played any of Rare's games will know that they love giving you collectables to find. Whether it's bananas, K-O-N-G letters, jiggies or Jinjos, the games are stuffed full of them. Rareware Archives is no different!

    As you make your way around the site you'll come across special trophies modelled on various Rareware characters. If you spot them then be sure to click on them quickly!

    It is very important that you keep the location of the secrets to yourself. Just as you wouldn't want a friend to come and tell you what presents you've got for Christmas before you open them, part of the mystery and fun of the trophies is having the surprise of finding them yourself so please don't go and ruin it for others. The admin will know if you've been naughty or nice.

    We're not going to give away any specifics but here are a couple of pointers to help you look;

    1. Trophies will always appear in the same spot (they do not move around from location to location) but they appear in their designated spot completely random.

    2. The whole site is fair game for searching but we can tell you they definitely will not appear on member profile pages so you don't have to worry about looking there.

    If you find more than one of the same trophy you'll be able to sell them in the Market Square for some Rareware coins.

    You mentioned Rareware coins just then, what are these for?

    Rareware coins are the currency we use here at Rareware Archives. You can see the amount you currently have up in the top left-hand corner where all your profile links are located. Rareware coins are used to buy blogs, videos and items in the Market Square. You can earn them by;

    1. Each day you login to the site will earn you 10 coins.

    2. Create an item for sale in the Market Square forum. You'll receive the proceeds if anyone buys your item!

    3. Every so often we'll offer coins up as competition prizes.

    4. You can receive Rareware coins as a donation from other members if they are feeling charitable.

    Market Square? What's that?

    The Market Square is our online store where you can buy blogs, videos and different skins we've designed in order to make your visit to RA more unique to you. If there is a Rare-related skin that you'd like that you do not see in the Market Square then you can post a request for it in the
    Market Square forum. The staff check here regularly and if they like your suggestion they'll create a skin (it must be Rare-related though!). You can also post your own avatar and image sigs in the Market Square forum if you are feeling creative, which you can then sell to other members (they donate RA coins to you in exchange for the image) in order to further personalise your profile.

    How is my rank worked out?

    The rank you hold is based on the date you joined Rareware Archives, so the longer you stay with us the better your rank will be. There are six ranks in total and they are;

    1. Fresh out of the traps (join date to one month).

    2. Settling in nicely (one month to six months).

    3. Right at home (six months to twenty four months).

    4. Dedicated (twenty four months to thirty six months).

    5. Veteran (thirty six months to forty eight months).

    6. Legend (forty eight months plus).

    What if I have a question that hasn't been answered on this FAQs page?

    There are lots of ways to get in touch with the Rareware Archives staff if you have a question or a problem. First of all please visit the Site Help & Suggestions forum and have a look around in there to see if another member has already asked a similar question; you will probably find your answer in that particular topic if they have. If not, create a new topic and someone will be along to answer your query as quickly as possible. If you'd prefer, you can also send an e-mail to the Rareware Archives staff who will get back to you as soon as possible. Check out the
    contact page for full details. Finally, you can send one of the Rareware Archives staff a private message. As time goes by we will add the most common questions to this page to help other new members.
